Design And Evaluation Of Rivastigmine Transdermal Patches

The objective of preparing numerous drug delivery systems is to achieve desired drug plasma levels. Out of the various available drug delivery systems transdermal drug delivery system signifies its importance regarding compliance and therapeutic benefits offered. This system is superior to intravenous drug diffusion because it closely duplicates the benefits of I.V. delivery without its disadvantages.

The focus of this investigation is the synthesis, characterization and evaluation of new terpolymers. Preparation of terpolymers was optimized by varying different reaction parameters. The major benefits of transdermal drug delivery systems include reduction in plasma drug concentration fluctuations and avoidance of presystemic metabolism of drugs making it an ideal drug delivery system.

Pressure Sensitive Adhesives (PSA) have found a widespread use in both industrial and consumer market for transdermal drug deliveries. Acrylate monomers are one of the suitable candidates to prepare pharmaceutical grade PSA’s. We used Co-polymerization or multicomponent polymerization techniques to develop the new polymer systems having roughly equivalent physical properties of individual homopolymers. Terpolymers, derived from three different types of monomers or having three different repeat units in the polymer chain are found to be excellent PSAs in this work.
